Livingston To Hold Health Clinics For Local Residents: Medication, Diabetes, Blood Pressure

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Health Department will be teaming up with community partners to host a series of public clinics for local residents in late September and October.

Blood Pressure Screening

The Livingston Health Department is offering a free Blood Pressure Screening for Livingston residents on Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon. The screening will be held at the Livingston Senior/Community Center (first floor), 204 Hillside Avenue.

Here's what to expect:

"High blood pressure is known as the silent killer' because it has no symptoms of its own, but it can dramatically increase one's risk of developing heart disease or stroke. Many people with high blood pressure don't even know they have it; the signs and symptoms are often misunderstood. High blood pressure can be managed effectively though lifestyle changes and, when necessary, medication."

Medication Review: What's In Your Bag?

The Livingston Health Department, in conjunction with Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center's Pharmacy Department, will offer a medication review program on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Livingston Senior/Community Center (Tahaney Room 1 on the first floor), 204 Hillside Avenue.

Here's what to expect:

"Attendees can meet one-on-one with a member from the pharmacy team at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center to review the medications and supplements you are taking. Come have your questions answered, ensure you're taking your medications and supplements properly, and learn how to prevent potentially unsafe drug interactions."

Appointments are required. To make an appointment, call the Health Department at 973-535-7961 ext. #7110, #7109, or #7108. Bring all of the medications and supplements you are taking with you to your appointment.

Living With Diabetes

The Livingston Health Department, in conjunction with Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, is offering a diabetes presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Livingston Senior/Community Center (Tahaney Room 1 on the first floor), 204 Hillside Avenue.

Here's what to expect:

"It is estimated that over 40 million people in the United States are living with diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic health condition that raises blood sugar because the body does not produce enough insulin or respond properly to the effects of insulin. Join us to learn more about the different types of diabetes, managing diabetes, and treatment."
