Who: Affordable Housing Alliance
Why: According to a report from the Monarch Housing Associates, 632 people experienced homelessness in January, 2014 in Monmouth County, NJ. Over the past five years, the total number of homeless persons has fluctuated in the county, with the highest count in 2013 with 918 homeless people. This jump in 2013 was likely due, in large part, to the impact of Hurricane Sandy, which caused extensive damage to housing stock and displaced many County residents.
AHA is part of the NeighborWorks® network, an affiliation of more than 245 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In 2014, the NeighborWorks® network helped more 300,000 individuals and families with affordable housing and counseling.
The NeighborWorks® network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks® America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.
