EATONTOWN, NJ — A new Netflix series called "Big Mistakes" filmed at 40 locations across New Jersey, including at the Crystal Inn in Eatontown.
The show is described as a crime comedy TV series about two siblings, and it stars Emmy award–winner Dan Levy ("Schitt's Creek"), with Taylor Ortega. It just started streaming this week on Netflix.
The series was shot over 46 days at 40 locations across New Jersey, including the Crystal Inn (Eatontown), Edison Millwork & Hardware (Edison), Springfield town hall, Hazel Wood Cemetery (Colonia), Wyoming Presbyterian Church (Millburn), Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morristown, Adam’s Fine Clothing & Tuxedo (New Providence), the Union Police Department in Union and finally, Harem Cabaret in Lodi. Other towns where filming was done include Caldwell, Cranford, Franklin Lakes, Irvington, Jersey City, Warren and Weehawken.
“It was surreal getting to film in my home state,” said Ortega, who grew up in Cranbury. “I grew up in New Jersey and was obsessed with film and television and never thought I’d be returning home for such a major project and moment in my life.”
Here's a description from Netflix:
"The show follows Nicky (Levy) and Morgan (Ortega), two deeply incapable siblings who are in over their heads when a misguided theft for their dying grandmother accidentally pulls them into the world of organized crime. Blackmailed into increasingly dangerous assignments, they clumsily fail upwards, sinking deeper into chaos they’re ill-equipped to handle."
Production hired more than 300 New Jersey locals as cast and crew.
