EATONTOWN, NJ — A man taken into ICE custody in Eatontown last month is wanted for a murder in his home country of Honduras, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in this press release Monday.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents took Fredy Alexander Lopez Lara into custody on April 20 in Eatontown.
ICE agents stopped a car in Eatontown "for targeted enforcement," and Lopez Lara was a passenger in that car.
The Department of Homeland Security said Lopez Lara is in the United States illegally, and described him as an illegal alien. ICE agents first took Lopez Lara into custody due to his illegal presence in the United States, said the Dept. of Homeland Security.
After system checks, they found the arrest warrant out of Honduras for murder. ICE said it found an international warrant, issued in 2020, to arrest him for homicide in Honduras.
Lopez Lara illegally entered the United States at an unknown date and location, without inspection, admission or parole from an immigration officer, according to the Department of Homeland Security. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
"This illegal alien is wanted for murder in his home country of Honduras,” said Acting Assistant Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis. “Nearly 70 percent of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S. This statistic does not even include foreign fugitives wanted for crimes in their home country like this illegal alien.”
This arrest was made by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) agents operating out of their Newark field office.
“We will see to it that no criminal evades prosecution overseas by unlawfully seeking refuge in the United States," said ICE ERO Newark acting Field Office Director Arthur Wilson, Jr.
