LONG BRANCH, NJ — The Monmouth County Sheriff had to put an emergency 8 p.m. curfew in place Tuesday night in Long Branch, as hundreds of teens and young people gathered in the Pier Village area.

"Due to an incident in Pier Village - effective at 8 p.m., the city of Long Branch has declared a curfew in the Pier Village area," Long Branch Mayor John Pallone posted to Facebook Tuesday night.

This Facebook post shows dozens of young people gathered at Pier Village and then, for reasons that are unknown, the crowd of young people started running.

Long Branch Police officers and county sheriffs' officers asked the young people to disperse the area immediately.

NJ101.5 reports multiple fights broke out before officers arrived to Pier Village, and that several adults and juveniles were arrested. Long Branch Police did not immediately confirm that.

Pier Village and Long Branch were the gathering spots for several pop-up parties in recent years. The parties are organized on social media by online party promoters. Jersey Shore towns have been battling the large crowd gatherings for several years now, and Wildwood already served two online party promoters cease-and-desist orders so far this May, Wildwood Police said.
