Monmouth Medical Center Graduates Latest Class from School of Medical Technology

Three New Jersey college students recently graduated from Monmouth Medical Center’s Medical Technology Program.

Representing the Class of 2011 were Melissa G. Myers of Seaside, who graduated from Monmouth University, West Long Branch, Salvatore V. Giacone III of Shark River Hills, who graduated Seton Hall University, South Orange, and Nicole M. Therien of Point Pleasant, who graduated Johnston & Wales University, Rhode Island.

Founded in 1951 by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services, the program is certified by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, which surveys hospitals and other institutions in the allied health professions.

Monmouth is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) — placing its laboratory among a select group of 6,000 facilities in the United States to earn this distinction, which is widely recognized as the “gold standard” by agencies such as the Health Care Financing Administration and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Over the years, Monmouth has established itself as the region's leader in laboratory analysis. A core staff of highly trained pathologists and more than 100 technologists and technicians work in its fully integrated clinical laboratory that features a network of 80 computer terminals. Thousands of different diagnostic tests are performed and their results interpreted here — from a standard blood count or urinalysis to the new generation of more complex tests.
