Suspect Busted Monmouth County Shooting, Armed Robbery

Police exchanged gunfire with a suspect who was busted an hour away from the robbery, authorities said.

Police say've got the suspect in armed robbery that involved gunfire.

Police say 31-year-old Aaron Riley, of Eatontown, was arrested in New York City Thursday on two counts of attempted murder, armed robbery and weapons offenses.

Riley apparently fired his weapon at an Eatontown police officer Tuesday who returned fire while he the suspect was trying to rob a pharmacy, officials said.

Monmouth County detectives subsequently received information from the New York Police Department that Riley was in their jurisdiction with a gunshot injury to his leg

The investigation continued in New York City, where Riley was eventually taken into custody by New York City police officers and where he currently remains in custody.

Bail was set at $1.45 million with no 10 percent option, and Riley was also ordered to have no victim contact and not to return to the scene by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge David F. Bauman, according to authorities.

Eatontown police responded to a pair of 911 calls around 6:43 p.m. Tuesday reporting an armed robbery in progress at the AllTown Pharmacy on Wyckoff Road, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Eatontown police arrived on scene with the suspect inside the pharmacy. The suspect demanded prescription narcotics from an employee but fled the scene when he realized officers were arriving.

The unknown suspect wore a scarf covering his face. He was wearing a tan-colored hooded jacket with black gloves and jeans.

The suspect was fleeing the scene on foot when he fired at an Eatontown police officer during the foot pursuit. The suspect then ran to a vehicle in the Michaels Plaza parking lot and was last seen fleeing the scene on Route 36 West.
