Cookie Queen: Long Branch Girl Scout Honored For Selling More Than 2,000 Boxes

The Jersey Shore Council of Girl Scouts honored 19 girls who sold more than 1,000 boxes of the beloved treats.

Most everyone loves Girl Scout cookies. Shortbreads. Samoas. And don't forget those yummy Thin Mints.

In Monmouth and Ocean counties, we love Girl Scout cookies so much that we bought nearly 1.1 million boxes of Girl Scout cookies this year. That works out to be an average of more than 125 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies sold per participating Girl Scout, according to the Jersey Shore Council of Girl Scouts.

Apparently a Girl Scout from Long Branch had some very hungry customers: Alanna Lynch, a high school freshman, sold 2,140 boxes, the council said. She was among 19 Girl Scouts who sold more than 1,000 boxes apiece during this Girl Scout cookie selling season. The girls were honored at an the Jersey Shore Council's annual meeting earlier this month where they were presented a special certificate by the council’s CEO, Susan H. McClure.

"During Girl Scout Cookie season, each amazing young G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) is not only selling delicious cookies but also building essential life skills, such as goal setting, people skills, and business ethics — which are essential for 21st century leadership," the Jersey Shore council said in a news release.

"The more cookies girls sell, the more earnings they have to power impactful community projects and personal enrichment experiences, such as camping and traveling.Locally, many Girl Scouts also set a goal to participate in the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore’s Jersey Shore Cares program, donating Girl Scout Cookies to local charitable organizations including the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and the military."
