EATONTOWN, NJ — A pitbull named Trouble is currently being held at the Monmouth County SPCA after authorities say he was stabbed by his owner during a domestic violence argument.
On Jan. 3 of this year, Eatontown resident Malcom Rogers, 62, stabbed his dog Trouble with a kitchen knife, said Eatontown Police.
Rogers stabbed the dog in the chest, causing a severe laceration, according to the police report. Rogers was arrested and charged with third-degree animal cruelty and a third-degree illegal weapons offense.

Trouble survived the stabbing, after he underwent surgery. He was also confiscated by Monmouth County SPCA law-enforcement officers. However, because Trouble's former owners are contesting the case in court, Trouble is now legally required to remain in the care of the Monmouth County SPCA until the criminal case is resolved.
The Monmouth County SPCA launched this fundraising page, and is asking the public to donate to help pay the costs of the following:
• Trouble's initial emergency hospital stay
• Ongoing boarding and daily care
• Food, enrichment, and behavioral support

According to the Monmouth County SPCA:
"Cases like Trouble’s highlight an important challenge within animal welfare. When legal timelines stretch on, animals can remain in limbo for long periods of time. Our organization is actively working toward legislative improvements that would help animal cruelty cases move more efficiently — reducing stress on animals and allowing them to begin healing sooner."
