Don't miss the Asbury Park Music Legacy Presentation

Wednesday, February 11

On Wednesday, February 11, Charlie & Pam Horner the curators
of the month long exhibit, “Asbury Park’s Springwood Harmony”will present a multimedia presentation
of the music from Asbury Park’s West Side from 1910-1970 at 7:00 PM
It will include song clips, videos and fascinating stories that go along
with the exhibition, “Asbury Park’s Springwood Harmony”

Long before Asbury Park became known for rock music, the city’s
African Americancommunity rocked on Springwood Avenue. Between 1910 and 1970, the city’s West Side pioneered the sounds of jazz, gospel and rhythm & blues. This exhibit explores, chronicles and highlights Asbury Park’s black music scene from Count Basie to Billy Brown,
through an impressive collection of rare photos and memorabilia.

It is a huge exhibit of photos and memorabilia relating to black music in Asbury Park from 1910 to 1970. To all my Long Branch residents be on
the look out for a picture of The Street People. The R&B/disco group from New Jersey who first began recording in 1974. They were produced by Ray Dahrouge. The members included Roy Daniels, Milton Daniels, Thomas “Toot” Williams, Joe Gardner and Rick Johnson. Also be sure to take notice of some old “back in the day” young pictures for Long Branch’s UEZ Director, Jacob “Jake Jones.

From what I see by all the pictures of the preparation, neither of the exhibits show it all.  It truly deserves its own permanent exhibit.
