Eatontown Amazon Fresh Store Will Close Sunday

EATONTOWN, NJ — The Amazon Fresh grocery store in Eatontown, next to the Hackensack Meridian health center, is closing.

This Sunday, Feb. 1 will be the final day of business for that store and nearly all Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores across the nation, NJBIZ reported.

There are four Amazon Fresh stores in New Jersey: Eatontown, Lodi, Paramus and Woodland Park. All will close Sunday. Amazon announced Tuesday it will be closing all its Amazon Fresh/Amazon Go stores nationwide. (Amazon Fresh was doing so poorly that Amazon planned to open an Amazon Fresh on Rt. 35 in Holmdel, but they never opened, and put the unopened storefront up for sublease last year, the Asbury Park Press reported.)

Amazon said it will instead focus solely on Whole Foods, which it also owns.

Patch has been reporting for years now that a Whole Foods is coming to Eatontown: A Whole Foods will open at the space formerly occupied by Barnes & Noble at the mall. (Barnes & Noble moved to 180 Rt. 35, next to the Macy's, which still plans to stay open.)

The new Eatontown Whole Foods is scheduled to open some time in 2026.

Monmouth Mall was partially demolished in 2024, and that location will be re-birthed as Monmouth Square, which will be 1,000 luxury apartments/condos, shops and restaurants, all built around a large center green, which will be open to the public for shopping and strolling. Businesses already confirmed to open there are STRONG Pilates, Prince Street Pizza, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Felice upscale Italian restaurant (pronounced Fell-eet-cHe in Italian), Offshore Coffee coffeshop and Cava Mediterranean food.

Monmouth Mall was partially demolished in 2024, and construction on the apartments started last year. Monmouth Square says it is already 75 percent pre-leased, according to this report. Rental prices have not been released, but likely $2,000 - $3,000 a month for studio, one-and two-bedroom apartments.

So far, the Eatontown Macy's and Boscov's are still slated to remain open, as is the AMC movie theater.
