Fmr. Yankee Johnny Damon Gives Kids Toys At Monmouth Medical

LONG BRANCH, NJ — Johnny Damon's playing days are over, but he's still giving kids and fans reasons to smile. The former Yankee visited The Unterberg Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center.

Damon arrived Tuesday afternoon and gifted young patients with a 2019 Hess Toy Truck. He did the same at the PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick earlier that day.

As part of Hess's program, Giants tight end Evan Engram gave children toy trucks Tuesday at Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital in Hackensack. Both athletes also took photos with kids and their families.

Damon played in the majors from 1995-2012, accumulating 2,769 hits. He led the American League in 2000 with 136 runs and 46 stolen bases with the Royals.

The outfielder won the first of his two World Series titles in 2004 with the Red Sox, bringing the title back to Boston for the first time since 1918. Damon hit two home runs with six RBI in game seven of the 2004 American League Championship Series, helping the Sox make the World Series after trailing three games to nothing.

Damon then played for the Yankees from 2006-09. He recorded a career-high 24 runs in his first season in pinstripes, finishing 15th in American League MVP voting. He also helped the Yankees win their most recent World Series title in 2009, before spending his final seasons with the Tigers, Rays and Indians.
