Free Baby Pantry For Poor Families Opens Oct. 24 In Eatontown

EATONTOWN, NJ — Pinwheel Place, which provides free emergency childcare for children ages newborn to 6 years old, will open a new "baby pantry" in October in Eatontown.

The "baby pantry" will be stocked with essentials such as diapers, clothes and baby supplies, all of which will be distributed to more than 200 local families each month.

It is scheduled to open Oct. 24. They did not say where in Eatontown they will open.

"Diapers are often gatekeepers: children need a full day’s supply of diapers to attend daycare and parents can’t work if their child is not in daycare," said Pinwheel Place.

In the past year, the Pinwheel Place has seen a significant increase in requests for larger items, including car seats, cribs, strollers and pack-and-plays. Their new Eatontown location will allow them to store these bigger items, they say.

Pinwheel Place says it is the only registered crisis nursery in the state of New Jersey.

The Oct. 24 opening will be attended by Eatontown Mayor Anthony Talerico, state Assemblywoman Margie Donlon and Rachel Peace, running in this area for U.S. Congress.

"By ensuring access to diapers and infant essentials, Pinwheel Place’s new Baby Pantry will act as a stabilizing force in New Jersey helping to protect employment, housing, and family well-being while reducing overall stress across households," said Pinwheel Place.
