LA THEATRE WORK’S IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT at the
Pollak Theatre beginning at 8:00 PM

Recorded before a live audience by L.A. Theatre Works, the
foremost radio theatre company in the United States
Featuring Ryan Vincent Anderson, Michael Hammond, Kalen Harriman,
Travis Johns, James Morrison, Darren Richardson, and Tom Virtue.
Directed by Brian Kite.

Based on John Ball’s novel which inspired the Oscar-winning film
and the Emmy-winning television series. In the Heat of the Night is
a tense whodunit detective story thriller that is set in a small southern
town during a hot summer in the 1960s. It tells the story of Virgil Tibbs
a black police detective from up north, who is arrested as a prime
suspect solely because of his color in a murder investigation

A fitting reflection of America in the 1960s, this Off-Broadway hit is
provocative, timely, and uncomfortably relevant. It demonstrates the
slow evolution of attitudes, but leaves the characters, and America,
with a long way to go.

This was the era of sit-ins and tear gas, of marches and assassinations.
This was the era of Martin Luther King Jr., the Kennedys, and LBJ and
an America finally, deliberately, moving towards a future of equality
regardless of skin color.

In the Heat of the Night remains shockingly emblematic of
America in the 1960s, and how, almost half a century later,
our nation is still conquering the demon of prejudice.

Tickets for this presentation are $35; $45
