Liquid Church Now 1 Of Fastest Growing In The Country

Oakhurst, NJ - August 30, 2019 –A recent report from the long-running General Social Survey shows that for the first time, more Americans self-identified as having “No Religion” compared to those who self-identify as Catholic or evangelical. Despite this, one New Jersey church has seen unprecedented growth: Liquid Church of northern and central New Jersey, a church founded “by accident” in 2007 by Pastor Tim Lucas, was just named one of Outreach Magazine’s Top 100 Fastest-Growing Churches in America for its second straight year in a row. In his new book, Liquid Church: 6 Powerful Currents to Saturate Your City for Christ, Lucas pairs up with award-winning researcher and author Dr. Warren Bird to share the story of Liquid Church’s accidental founding and unexpected success, as well as ministry currents resonating with rising generations to help churches across the nation reach their communities. According to the General Social Survey report by Ryan P. Burge of Easter Illinois University, in total, those who consider themselves religious “nones” now represent 23.1 percent of the U.S population. Additionally, a report from the Pew Research Center on the religious landscape of the U.S. shows the percentage of religious nones rises among younger Millennials, of whom 36 percent claim to Atheism, Agnosticism or “Nothing in Particular.” Demographics also come into play here, as in New Jersey alone, young Millennials make up just 10 percent of Christians.
Accidentally founded in 2007 by Lucas and his twenty-something friends, Liquid Church has grown to six, soon to be seven locations, with 5,000 people in weekly attendance and more than 2,400 baptisms to date. Lucas believes the secret to the church’s success lies in employing six ministry currents that resonate with today’s “show-then-tell” culture: Special needs, creative communications, ministry mergers, compassionate cause, radical generosity, and leadership culture.
