Long Branch Man Arrested In Gas Station Armed Robbery

A Long Branch man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a Wall Township gas station has been arrested in Woodbridge Township, police said Tuesday.
Daniel J. Popo, 52, was arrested on Friday, Nov. 27 by the Woodbridge Police Department, Wall Township Lt. Pete Lokerson said.
Popo is accused of brandishing a handgun at an attendant at the Exxon station at the corner of Route 35 and 18th Avenue last Tuesday, Nov. 24, and then taking off in a silver SUV with an unknown amount of cash, Lokerson said. Arrest warrants were issued later that day after Popo was identified through tips generated through social media circulation of a surveillance photo.

Popo was arrested during a motor vehicle stop by Woodbridge police, who found him in a stolen vehicle and in possession of a handgun, Lokerson said.
Popo is being held at the Middlesex County Correctional facility on charges from Woodbridge police, and additionally in lieu of $500,000 bail on the Wall Township charges, which include armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Lokerson said.
