Long Branch Man Fined $1,500 For Starving Pet Beagles

Long Branch Municipal Court Judge George Ceri recently fined a city man $1,500 and forbid him from ever owning animals again after his two pet beagles were found starved to death and stuffed in plastic garbage bags in a shed, according to the Asbury Park Press.

James Walker, 73, pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty before Ceri on Feb. 24, said Victor “Buddy’’ Amato, chief law enforcement officer for the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A veterinarian determined the beagles - ages 6 and 7 - died from lack of food and water, Amato said.
