Long Branch Man Gets 15 Years For Sexual Assault: MCPO

The man was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman who lay helpless and unconscious, according to authorities.

A Long Branch man received a 15-year prison sentence after he was convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni. The attack occurred in March 2017 attack, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said.

Cordero, 47, must serve at least 12 years and 9 months before parole eligibility, the MCPO said. Cordero was found guilty following a jury trial in September, the MCPO said.

The defendant originally reported that the victim assaulted him after engaging in consensual sex, the MCPO said. The investigation, which included surveillance video, concluded Cordero was the aggressor, the MCPO said. The video showed the entire sexual assault with the victim laying physically helpless and unconscious while Cordero committed sexual acts and penetration over her, the MCPO said.

The sexual assault occurred in a bar/restaurant within the city, which was closed at the time of the assault and is no longer in operation, the MCPO said.

During sentencing, Judge Ellen Torregrossa-O’Connor focused on Cordero's lack of remorse or insight into the crimes, the MCPO said.
