Long Branch Man Indicted For Sexual Assault of Minor

Gonzalo Camacho, 35, arrested and charged by Long Branch police on May 6

A Long Branch resident has been indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury and is facing several charges including aggravated sexual assault.

Gonzalo Camacho, 35, of North Fifth Avenue, was indicted on Aug. 5 and charged with two counts of sexual assault, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, criminal restraint and criminal sexual contact.

Long Branch Police Detective Sgt. Pilone said that a 16-year-old child, whose name and gender are not being released by police, reported to police that he or she had been sexually assaulted at the age of 13. The indictment states that the sexual assault occurred between June and and August, 2008.

Detective Sgt. Pilone, Detective Kim Leavy and Detective Michael Verdadeiro investigated the incident and arrested Camacho on May 6 at his home.

Pilone said the criminal restraint charge stems from the allegation that Camacho forcibly took the child from one room of the house to another to perform sexual acts.
