Louis Eugene Armour Of Long Branch Dies At 76

Services for church deacon slated for Saturday at the Second Baptist Church.

Louis Eugene Armour, 76, of Long Branch, joined the heavenly choir on Monday, March 9, 2015.

He will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Born Nov. 1, 1938 in Matawan, he lived most of his life in Long Branch. As a devout member of Second Baptist Church he led songs in the choir a favorite being “l’ve got a Testimony.” His testimony of God’s purpose and service were demonstrated throughout his life including as a Deacon and choir member.

One of his major acts of service was establishing the “Meal At Noon” program whereby thousands of meals have been provided for the needy and homeless in the community and is still ongoing. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, later earning degrees from Virginia State University, Rutgers University and a Masters degree from Monmouth University. Louis also was a member of the Urban League. The Board of Social Services was his workplace for many years. He retired as the director.,

Predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Veola Armour; brothers, Walter (Mary), James, Charles Wise and Ronnie Dickson (Barbara) and sister, Margie (Howard) Beale. Surviving are his brothers, Thomas(Helen), William (Shirley), Wallace (Florence) and two sisters, Alice (Horace) and Geraldine Crockett.

The testimony of Love was shared with his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara (Carter) and their two children, Sidney (Alise) and Michelle (Edward) Madison. There are 5 grandchildren, Lindsey, Logan, Lacie, Sean and Justin, and a host of nieces, great-nieces, cousins, family and friends.

A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14 until the Home Going service at 12 noon at Second Baptist Church, 93 Liberty St., Long Branch. Rev. Aaron N. Gibson, Sr. will officiate. The interment will be held at Union-Prospect Cemetery, Aberdeen. Childs Funeral Home, Red Bank, has been entrusted with arrangements.
