The first bank robbery occurred at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, November 13 at the PNC Bank branch inside the Keyport Stop & Shop on Rt. 36. Police say Kavanagh approached a teller window, passed a note indicating he was in possession of a gun, and made off with a quantity of cash, leaving the scene in a green Toyota pick-up truck.
The next bank he is accused of robbing was the Lincroft Wells Fargo, at 4 p.m. on a Tuesday, Dec. 14. The bank robbery was committed in identical fashion to the earlier one in Keyport, said police, with the suspect wearing similar clothing, and he again left the scene in a green Toyota pick-up.

Initial Patch report: Eatontown Bank Robbed (Dec. 20, 2021)
Following the bank robbery in Middletown, Middletown Police detectives developed information that led to Kavanagh being identified as a potential suspect.
After the bank robbery in Eatontown, Middletown detectives and assisting members of the FBI observed Kavanagh driving a green pickup truck that matched the description of the vehicle used in the earlier bank robberies. Middletown Police placed him under arrest, said Prosecutor Linskey.
Detectives searched the pick-up truck and located proceeds from the Eatontown bank robbery and the clothing the suspect was seen wearing on surveillance footage. They also located information pertaining to a storage unit in Shrewsbury, and a search of that location revealed proceeds from the Keyport and Middletown bank robberies.
Additionally, a search of the cell phone Kavanagh was using contained evidence of online searches for local bank branches, said police.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's office said it would like to thank its partners with the Eatontown, Keyport and Middletown police departments, as well as members of the FBI. Anyone with information about Kavanagh’s activities is urged to contact County Prosecutor Detective Brian Migliorisi or Detective Jason Gold toll-free at (800) 533-7443.
