The T. Thomas Fortune Project recommends two educational and wonderful eventsto choose from today.
The first is a right here in Monmouth County at Bates Lodge #220, 306 Shrewsbury Avenue. Two River Theater and Frank Talk Multi Media Network will present at 7PM,The Fight for Equality in Red Bank in the 1950s and Today. This panel discussion will illuminate the struggle for social equality of this community in the 1950s and ’60s—and the challenges we still face today.
It includes insights from lifelong Red Bank resident and Civil Rights activist
Flo Apy. Dr. Walter Greason, Monmouth University professor and the author of Suburban Erasure: How the Suburbs Ended the Civil Rights Movement in New Jersey and The Path to Freedom: Black Families in New Jersey. Sharon Lee, a former four-term Red Bank Borough Council Member along with
Eileen Moon, Former Two River Times Editor and Author of Legendary Locals of Red Bank. Moderated by Gilda Rogers, community activist, Brookdale College professor and Co-chair of the T. Thomas Fortune Project Programming Committee There will also be a special display of period photographs from Dorn’s Photography.
The second also takes place at 7PM. It is at the Jackson Library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson. Monmouth County resident, Lorraine Stone will present the STORY OF HARRIET TUBMAN
Dressed in clothing patterned from the era, Lorraine will perform
Tubman's story of leading over 13 rescue missions on the Underground Railroad. Lorraine, Co-chairs on the T. Thomas Fortune Project Programming Committee along with Gilda Rogers
