Monmouth County-Wide Gun Buyback Program Coming Up On Friday and Saturday

Residents can anonymously surrender weapons at locations in Asbury Park and Keansburg.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office will hold a gun buyback program this Friday and Saturday at two locations, one in Asbury Park, the other in Keansburg, Acting Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.

Residents can bring unloaded assault weapons, handguns, shotguns and rifles, along with ammunition, pellet and BB guns from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office satellite office at 710 Main Street in Asbury Park and at the New Point Comfort Firehouse on 192 Carr Avenue in Keansburg.

Weapons can be surrendered anonymously, without any questions, he said.

“We all share a stake in a safer community, and gun buyback programs provide an opportunity for anyone to turn in any type of guns to help create that safer environment,” Gramiccioni said. ”Nobody should have to live in fear of violence in their own neighborhood or in their own home. Gun violence has certainly proven to be a deadly part of many communities across the nation and Monmouth County is not immune. Turn in the guns with no questions asked and you can make a little cash too.”

Cash will be paid for various weapons turned in at the surrender points: $200 for an assault weapon; $100 for handguns; and $25 for shotguns and rifles. Ammunition, pellet and BB guns may be surrendered at the locations, but there will be no compensation for those items, he said.

All weapons should be unloaded and transported safely, in accordance with the law.

The gun buyback program is sponsored by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Monmouth County Police Chiefs’ Association, the Community Foundation of New Jersey and an anonymous donor.
