Monmouth Medical Center Presents August Community Health Education Programs

It Can Wait

Monday, August 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

One look at a post, selfie, text or scroll through email while driving is all it takes for serious consequences to occur. Monmouth Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, in collaboration with Safe Kids NJ - Monmouth/Ocean Chapter and Pier Village, is partnering with AT&T on their “It Can Wait” texting and driving campaign to warn against distracted driving through demonstrations with a car simulator. The simulator is a virtual reality driving experience that warns against the dangers of distracted driving. The Monmouth/Ocean Chapter of Safe Kids will be providing safety information with games and prizes. This event will take place at the Festival Plaza-Pier Village in Long Branch. In case of severe weather, the event will take place in the Town Square in front of Macys at the Monmouth Mall, Route 35 and 36, Eatontown. Free.

Adult Pulmonary Support Group/Better Breather’s Club

Tuesday, August 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

This support group, cosponsored by Monmouth Medical Center and the American Lung Association of New Jersey, is for adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), emphysema, chronic asthma, asthma or bronchitis, pulmonary fibrosis, lung resection, scleroderma, pulmonary hypertension, alpha-1 antitrypsin and their families. This group will take place at the Maysie Stroock Pavilion, on the corner of Pavilion and Second Avenues in Long Branch. West End Cruise Night

Saturday, August 13 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Cruise down to the Classic Car Show to see some custom cars and entertainment. Stop by Monmouth Medical Center’s Monmouth/Ocean Chapter Safe Kids table. Spin the Safe Kids Wheel, answer a safety-related question and win a prize (everyone wins!). Information about keeping children safe in and around cars will be available. The event is will be held on Brighton Avenue in Long Branch. Free.

Tu Sello Latino Fest

Saturday, August 20 from 12 to 5 p.m.

Monmouth Medical Center is proud to sponsor Tu Sello Latino, the 2nd largest Latino festival in the State of New Jersey. This Festival is a fun family-oriented event celebrating Hispanic heritage, traditions, cultures, food and music. Come join the Community Health Education team for free health screenings and the Monmouth/Ocean Chapter of Safe Kids for games, prizes and safety information. The Festival will take place in Broadway Park in Long Branch. Free.

Diabetes Self-Management Series

Fridays, August 26 and September 2, 9, & 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and

Mondays, August 22 & 29 and September 5 & 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Are you struggling with diabetes? Learn how to manage your diabetes by attending this four-session diabetes education program focusing on diet, nutrition, glucose monitoring, medications, meal plans, prevention and treatment of diabetes complications, dining out and benefits of exercise. The program is taught by a registered nurse and a registered dietitian/certified diabetes educator. It will be held at The Center for Diabetes Education at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Program attendees will need a doctor’s prescription and will be billed to Medicare or your insurance carrier. For information and to register for classes, call 732-923-5025. Fee based.
