Monmouth Medical Center Presents Late March Community Health Education Programs

HEART SAVER FIRST AID
Sunday, March 22 from 1 to 4 p.m.
This is a credentialed course intended for individuals with a duty to respond to a first aid emergency. The course contains information on how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Note that CPR is not part of this program. Techniques learned from the course can be tailored for both adults and children. The program will take place at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER (SAD)
Tuesday, March 24 from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
Are you experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, emptiness and fatigue or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)? You may be experiencing depression. Depression can impact your energy, sleep, appetite and physical health, especially when the cold weather sets in and the days get shorter. This program, presented by Carol Palmer BA, Monmouth Medical Center Program Instructor, will discuss natural approaches that may help you feel better. You will also learn ways to recognize and deal with these issues, challenge automatic negative thoughts, increase energy and bring more enjoyment to life. This program, for ages 60 and older, will take place at the Howell Senior Center, located at 251 Preventorium Road in Howell. Registration is required by calling 732-542-1326. Free.

DEMENTIAS
Tuesday, March 24 from 1:15 to 2 p.m.
Dementia is a group of symptoms that includes short-term memory loss, confusion, inability to problem-solve or complete multi-step activities and occasionally personality changes or unusual behavior. Many different diseases can cause dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease and stroke therefore a diagnosis requires a complete medical evaluation. In this program, presented by Dr. Shira Goldberg, MD, Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Monmouth Medical Center, attendees will learn more about the symptoms, causes, diagnosis and treatment of dementia. Light refreshments will be provided. This program, for ages 60 and older, will take place at the Howell Senior Center, located at 251 Preventorium Road in Howell. N.J. BARIATRIC AND METABOLIC INSTITUTE (NJBMI) AT MONMOUTH MEDICAL CENTER: NEW PATIENT WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY LECTURE

PEDIATRIC PRE-OPERATIVE TOURS

Tours are available for pediatric patients preparing to have a surgical procedure in the Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center at Monmouth Medical Center. Tours are designed to reduce anxiety giving children a hands-on experience with medical equipment and visitation to areas they will encounter on the day of their surgery.
