Emerge New Jersey Selects Dorcas Adekunle For Political Training Class

Emerge New Jersey, the premier political training program for Democratic women, is pleased to announce that Dorcas Adekunle was selected to be in the second training class—a total of only eleven women. The training course will run for six months and will include sessions ranging in topic from public speaking to campaign strategy and fundraising. “Emerge makes a long-term investment in candidates by building their leadership skills, providing campaign training and building a network of Democratic women to help them run for – and win – elected office, “explains Emerge New Jersey’s Executive Director Karen Hartshorn Hilton.
Adekunle is a public affairs and political professional who previously worked as Policy Director for Bonnie Watson for Congress 2014. “I am passionate about income inequality, the right to vote and human rights issues, both domestic and abroad,” said Adekunle. “I believe that Congress has a critical role to play in lifting up the most vulnerable. To do this, we must ensure that all Americans have an opportunity to achieve the American Dream.”
Adekunle has had an interest in public policy since her studies at Monmouth University where she participated in Model United Nations, and her school received the Distinguished Delegation Award. Her passion evolved when she pursued her law degree at the Thomas Kline School of Law at Drexel University.
While at Drexel, Adekunle was nationally elected by her peers to serve as a law student member of New Jersey’s delegation to the American Bar Association, House of Delegates, its legislative body. In addition to advocating on issues that effect law students and the legal profession, Adekunle led the effort to improve the transition and training process for incoming delegates from her division.
