Reward Upped In Assault Of Long Branch Police Officer

NJ Cop Shot program offering $20,000 for information leading to officer's attackers, state PBA president says.

The NJ Cop Shot program will pay whoever provides information leading to the conviction of subjects who attacked Long Branch Police Offcer Michael Monahan recently.

The program will pay $20,000 for the correct information. The reward amount was originally $5,000, but has since been hiked to $20,000.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this officer, his family, and all the officers within the Long Branch Police Department during this difficult time," state PBA President Patrick Colligan said. "In an effort to capture anyone responsible for the assault of this officer, the State PBA is offering a $20,000 reward through the NJ COP SHOT program for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for this assault on a police officer.”

Monahan was on patrol in uniform around 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning when he saw flashlights and movement on an abandoned property on the corner of Bath and Westwood avenues.

He left his police cruiser to investigate, and the subjects fled, Public Safety Director Jason Roebuck has said.

Monahan pursued them on foot and apprehended one subject before the officer was hit on the head and knocked unconscious, Roebuck said.

Monahan was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition with head and neck injuries, Colligan said.
