Richard W. Greene, M.D. Of Long Branch Dies

Richard W. Greene, MD, known as “Dick”, was born in Newark in 1916 and was a New Jersey resident his entire life.

He began his education at Newark Academy. He received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. His internship was served at Newark City Hospital and his ophthalmic residency at NYU, Bellevue Medical Center,

He went on to attend Northwestern Medical School to complete an ophthalmic fellowship. Additional post-graduate work was completed at Harvard Medical School and University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He began his practice in Newark, and then practiced in Irvington before making Millburn his final practice location in a partnership. Dick served as Captain in the Army Medical Corps during WWII.

Dick practiced privately for nearly 60 years retiring at the age of 90. Always needing to be active and informed, Dick became the oldest student attending Monmouth University, West Long Branch where he audited several courses in History. He was a music lover of classical and jazz and also enjoyed history.

He was predeceased by his son, Thomas, and is survived by his wife, Carol Greene, of Long Branch; and his son, Richard W. Greene Jr. of Atlanta, GA.
