Robert A. Shannon, Lifelong Long Branch Resident, Dies At 73

Services slated for Friday and Saturday.

Robert A. Shannon, 73, a lifelong resident of Long Branch died on Wednesday May 20, 2015 at his home.

Robbie was the owner and operator of the John Guire Company, Long Branch along with son Jamie who he affectionately called “Son”. The John Guire Company is the oldest retail business in Long Branch.

He was a graduate of Long Branch High School in 1960. Robbie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1964. Following the Navy he entered and graduated from Teterboro Aviation School. Robbie was an exempt member and treasurer of the West End Engine Company, Long Branch Fire Department, as well as the Long Branch Chamber of Commerce.

He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s RC Church, Long Branch. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he enjoyed his family and creating nick names for each, including his two shinning pennies, his two daughters. Robbie was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed Nascar racing.

Robbie was predeceased by his parents, Mary Guire and Arthur Shannon and his sister, Patricia Pearsall. Surviving is his “Dove” his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara A. Shannon; their loving children, James Shannon, Sea Girt, Barbara and T.R. Dempsey, Highlands and Susan and Lester Hauck, Oakhurst; Robbie and Barbara’s beloved grandchildren, Courtney, Nicole, Blaine, Morgan, Rebecca, Clayton and Jarrett; and his cousin who he considered his second sister, Yvonne Guire, Eatontown.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday May 22nd, at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 23 at St. Michael’s R.C. Church, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
