See Long Branch Artist's Work On Display For Black History Month

There is a new exhibit up at the Long Branch Arts Center, featuring the work of local artist LaToya Morris.

LONG BRANCH, NJ — As February is Black History Month, there is a new exhibit up at the Long Branch Arts Center, featuring local artist LaToya Morris.

The other artists featured are Tino F. Cook and Harthula Nevling, and their work comes on loan from Arthur Pinckney's Gallery, New Jersey Arts World in Union.

The Long Branch Arts Center is located at 577 Broadway.

"The 'Black History Through Art' exhibit is a visual celebration of African American culture. Represented in this show is a mix of traditional African art, scenes depicting moments in everyday life, abstracts, historic photos and images of important figures in politics and pop culture that helped shaped the modern world as we know it,” said Long Branch Arts Center Coordinator Christine Sullivan.

The Arts Center will have a reception for this exhibit from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 24 and will feature the artists, food from “Sutton for the Soul," music and more. This event is free and open to the public.

The exhibit is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am -4:30pm, Wednesday from 4pm-7pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm.

“The Long Branch Arts and Cultural Center is a very nice addition for the residents of Long Branch. This month’s display of African American Art is amazing. I hope the residents young and old will take advantage and stop by to visit the center,” said Long Branch Councilman Bill Dangler, who is also president of the local chapter of the NAACP.
