Talerico Re-Elected As Eatontown Mayor, 2 Dems May Win Council Seats

There is currently just a 52-vote difference between Councilman Kevin Gonzalez (Republican) and Meir Araman, his Democratic challenger.

EATONTOWN, NJ — The Democratic Party continues to make major inroads in the town of Eatontown, with Mayor Anthony Talerico beating his Republican challenger Tuesday night and two new Democrats very close to ending years of Republican domination on the Eatontown borough council.

However, with just a 52-vote difference between current councilman Kevin Gonzalez (Republican) and Meir Araman, his Democratic challenger, the vote has not yet been made official. Monmouth County still has to count all mail-in ballots.

Talerico, a Democrat, beat Republican challenger and current Councilman Mark Regan 2,278 votes to 1,625.

Democrats Araman and Virginia East just barely eked out a victory over the current two sitting Republican council members Gonzalez and Maria Escalante.

Up until now, Eatontown was always controlled by Republican leadership. With the possible defeat of Gonzalez and Escalante, the council is now evenly split, three Republicans and three Democrats.

Major issues in Eatontown at the moment are the proposed Kushner development at Monmouth Mall and the continued redevelopment of Fort Monmouth.

Maria Grazia ESCALANTE 1,844 (Republican)

Virginia M. EAST 2,058 (Democrat)

Meir ARAMAN 1,932 (Democrat)
