The Concept of ‘Space, Not Studio’

A space, not a studio, Horan-Sockol and Sobel, who share a birthday as well as a philosophy and practice exactly what they preach, were very deliberate in creating their new space and provide a welcoming atmosphere in which people can thrive mentally and spiritually as well as physically. “Yoga is a journey toward joy, a union of mind, body and soul,” Sobel stated, emphasizing that yoga has enhanced her life in amazing ways. Horan-Sockol, with an educational background in counseling and psychology, wants everyone who walks through the doors to find peace and solace. “Teaching is really my passion, and my purpose is to create a space, a special and sacred space, where all types of people can find harmony,” Horan stated.

Creativity & Kindness

Classes, which have names like ‘Sun Flow,’ ‘Sun Moon Flow,’ ‘Gentle Moon,’ ‘New Moon,’ & ‘Sunset Flow,’ are taught from the heart with kindness and humor, are kept small for everyone’s comfort, and offer individualized attention to students. “This is the type of space that both of us always envisioned,” stated Horan-Sockol and Sobel, and now the dream has come true.”

Yoga Is For Everybody…..That’s EVERY BODY

Horan-Sockol and Sobel believe the benefits of yoga are universal and that everyone can, and will, benefit. They emphasize that people do not have to have a certain body type or even a certain level of fitness to benefit. Most importantly, everyone is welcome in the studio.

A Perfect Pairing At The Perfect Time

Horan is the former owner of Sacred Simplicity Yoga Learning Center in Tinton Falls, and Sobel, who has a background in arts & music, is well-known on the Jersey Shore yoga scene for her creative teaching methods and sense of humor. The partners, now nicknamed amongst friends & colleagues as ‘the dynamic duo of yoga,’ met by coincidence through a mutual friend. Sobel gets goosebumps when she thinks of the day that this old friend, whom she had not seen in 4 years, walked into one of her yoga classes. Sobel told her friend that she was more than ready for her own studio and wanted to put all her energy into that dream. This friend also knew that Horan-Sockol was looking for new space and was about to sign a lease that very day. The friend called Horan-Sockol in a hurry and told her not to sign the lease and that she simply had to meet Sobel. The meeting was magical and formed the basis for creation of Sun Moon Yoga & Healing. Horan laughs and says the partnership works. “We are so similar, but just different enough that the ideas flow easily and effortlessly,” she joked.
