West Long Branch Police Arrest Scam Artist

Man reportedly took young women's money after advertising a job on craigslist.com

West Long Branch Police Detectives have arrested a local scam artist who used craigslist.com as a way to defraud young women.

West Long Branch Police Capt. Larry Mihlon said detectives arrested Gregory Hill, 27, whose last known address was Tinton Falls, on several outstanding warrants and charged him with three counts of theft by deception.

"Over the past few weeks several women have reported to this department
that they were victims of a scam," Capt. Mihlon said.

Capt. Mihlon said each woman reported answering an advertisement for employment on craigslist.com, that sought subjects for immediate hire as an office receptionist.

Capt. Mihlon said the ad specifically sought "Young Professional Women" and promised an average of $15 an hour.

"Each woman reported that they made contact with a Gregory Hill," Capt. Mihlon said. "Hill made claims of being a CEO and owner of a company that specialized in
obtaining scholarships for high school athletes."

Some of the company names used by Hill were College Bound Recruits and
Athlon Sports. Capt. Mihlon explained that after Hill made contact with the women seeking employment, he would set up an interview with the women and after taking their information would ask for cash up front.

Hill allegedly claimed the money was needed for various reasons ranging from background checks, work permits and insurance for a work cell phone.

"Once the money was obtained by Hill from the women, he would give them a proposed start date of employment, but each woman reported that Hill soon stopped making contact with them," Capt. Mihlon said.

During the investigation the West Long Branch Detective Bureau learned
that Hill had was using several office buildings in West LongBranch, under false pretenses.

Capt. Mihlon explained that Hill was found to be listed as a scam artist whoscammedyou.com by several victims of his deceit.

Capt. Mihlon said the West Long Branch Detective Bureau suspects that there are more victims of Hill that have yet to come forward and is encouraging those people to contact the police department at 732-229-5000.
