Long Valley Taxpayers Face Tax Hike In 2026 Budget

The township passed an ordinance allowing the tax hike limit to be increased.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — The Washington Township 2026 municipal budget has been introduced, and taxpayers in Long Valley can expect to pay a little bit more this year.

The budget accounts for a 3.5 percent increase in taxes this year, amounting to a total of $526,337.

The hike comes after the township introduced an ordinance that allowed it to exceed the previous hike cap of two percent up to 3.5 percent. The local tax for municipal purposes last year was $13,708,413, and 14,479,416 is expected for 2026

The township cites rising health care costs among the reasons for the increase, echoing similar reasons from towns across the state and country.

A hearing on the budget and tax resolution will be held on May 18 at 7 p.m., where residents are welcome to learn and ask questions on the proposed budget.
