Phony Check Investigation Leads To Arrest In Long Valley

A local business reported two fraudulent checks cashed at PNC, and detectives linked a Bronx man to similar cases.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township police said a local business recently reported that two fraudulent checks, appearing to come from the company’s account, had been cashed at a PNC Bank location.

According to the police department, detectives used multiple investigative techniques as they worked to identify the suspect. During that investigation, detectives determined that police in Pequannock Township, Spring Lake Heights, and Kearny were also actively investigating similar incidents involving a comparable suspect.

The Washington Township Detective Bureau ultimately identified a Bronx man as the suspect, according to the police department. Police said detectives were able to link him to multiple incidents across several jurisdictions.

It's not clear at this time exactly how much money the Bronx man allegedly took from the businesses.

Still, police said the Washington Township investigation supported the work of the other agencies involved in the case. According to the department, that work was instrumental in advancing indictable charges against the suspect for offenses committed throughout the state.
