LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township Recreation and the American Veteran’s Association of Washington Township Post 1776 are inviting residents to attend the township’s Annual Memorial Day Ceremony in Long Valley. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, at the Rock Spring Park Memorial War Site, 35 East Springtown Road, and is set to begin at noon.
According to the announcement, the ceremony will be held rain or shine. Organizers said the event is intended to honor “the brave servicemen and servicewomen who have made extraordinary sacrifices in service to our nation.” The program is being presented as the township’s annual observance of Memorial Day.
The announcement states that retired Army Major Anthony Frank DeStefano will serve as this year’s keynote speaker.
Organizers are asking community members to come together for the observance in recognition of veterans and fallen service members. The announcement says the ceremony is meant to help ensure “their legacy is remembered with gratitude and respect.”
Residents planning to visit Rock Spring Park that day should note that access will be limited to the ceremony. According to the announcement, “Rock Spring Park will be reserved exclusively for this ceremony and closed to all other activities for the day.” That means other park uses will not be permitted during the event.
