LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township is hiring for three Department of Public Works positions, including a full-time superintendent, a full-time laborer, and part-time seasonal help with buildings, grounds, and parks. The openings were posted for Washington Township in Morris County, with applications directed through the township website and by email.
The superintendent position calls for someone to plan, organize, and direct daily department operations while managing capital and infrastructure projects. The posting says the job also includes preparing and managing annual operating budgets, preparing written reports for the township committee, ensuring safety compliance within the department, and supervising staff.
Candidates should have knowledge of street and road operations, storm water management, parks and recreation operations, and fleet management.
The township says qualified superintendent applicants should have strong leadership and problem-solving skills. The posting says candidates are required to have, or obtain, Certified Public Works Manager, New Jersey Certified Recycling Professional, and New Jersey Clean Communities Coordinator certifications. Knowledge of SDL, Edmunds, FuelMaster, and Dossier is listed as a plus.
Washington Township also posted a full-time DPW laborer opening at $28.71 per hour with benefits. The posting says applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and experience with snow plowing for vehicles at 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight or more.
It also lists a minimum of three years of experience in building and grounds maintenance or in asphalt paving and road maintenance, underground utility excavation, and masonry. CDL applicants are preferred, according to the posting.
A third opening is for buildings, grounds, and parks help, listed as a part-time seasonal position paying $18 to $23 per hour for 40 hours per week without benefits. The posting says the work includes mowing, cleaning parks, offices, bathrooms, and kitchens, and trash removal.
Applicants should be able to perform manual labor in all weather conditions, carry out verbal instructions, and safely operate grass cutting equipment, string trimmers, chippers, and similar equipment as directed.
