Historical Society Presents “Alexander Hamilton, The Little Lion”

MADISON – On Tuesday, April 18th, Pat Sanftner will speak at the Madison Historical Society on the “Alexander Hamilton, The Little Lion”. Sanftner’s presentation will take place in the Chase Room of the Madison Public Library beginning at 7:15 PM. Light refreshments will be available from 7:00. The presentation is open to the public, and there is no admission charge.

“This will be our fourth presentation in the Society’s 2016 – 2017 program year. This month we will explore the life of our first US Secretary of Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, whose life is currently the subject of the hottest ticket on Broadway. Ms. Sanftner will give us a commentary of Hamilton’s birth history, events and experiences, recognizing his many accomplishments,” stated society vice president and program chairman Jim Malcolm. In this meeting, the focus will be on Hamilton’s title, “The Little Lion.”

Sanftner will outline details of this oh, so very popular man at this time, by answering and acknowledging accomplishments from the following questions: Where did Alexander Hamilton, our youngest Founding Father, come from? How did he rise in the ranks to become the right hand man to Washington? What skills led to this rise? This is the story of a dashing and heroic young man destined to go far and the many barriers that could have broken a lesser man.

Pat Sanftner has a Masters of Fine Arts from NYU, where she studied costume design for the theater. For thirty years she made her living working on Broadway in television and film, on such shows as The Sopranos, One Life to Live, the movies Men In Black, and the musical the Music Man. She also worked as a professor at Marymount Manhattan College for 15 years. Her dedication to history has been a focus through her life, in her career as a historic costumer, her lifelong love of antiques, and her many artistic endeavors including her regular work as a guest curator at a number of Morristown’s museums.

Sanftner is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, North Jersey Revolutionary Roundtable, the Washington Association of New Jersey, the Cut Glass Society of America, director of Schuyler Hamilton House Museum, and an advisor for the Crossroads of the American Revolution Heritage area. She is an award winning doll designer, produces costumes for re-enactors quilts and embroiders. She is also someone who has a proven dedication to volunteerism, which has garnered her two presidential medals, a special award from Morris County Tourism and the 2013 Daughter of Distinction for the state of New Jersey. She is also the official New Jersey State Historian. As an avid antiques collector and student of history, she has put her own spin onto a variety of subjects and is offering them to the public.
