IN SHORT
Connor Allen got the start for Madison, and other than a tough second inning in which he allowed four runs, the senior was nearly perfect. The Dodger bats were silenced by Hawthorne senior Kevin Smith, who allowed just five hits. Madison put together a late charge that saw them score two runs in the fifth inning, but it wouldn’t be enough as they dropped their third game of the season.
DODGER OF THE GAME
Connor Allen—The Madison senior threw a complete game but ran into trouble in the second inning when Hawthorne scored four runs. Allen regained his composure in the following inning, and was nearly perfect for the rest of the game. He also added a double and RBI at the plate.
OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Alex Brownlee (Madison), 1-for-3 with a single and a run scored; Mike Haughey (Madison), 1-for-3 with a single; Kevin Smith (Hawthorne), The Hawthorne senior threw a five-hitter, striking out two and walking one.
THEY SAID IT
"We dug ourselves a hole, we had one bad inning on the mound and [Smith] got into a groove. He didn’t walk many batters, he fell behind late in the game and then came back and threw strikes. Unfortunately, we left our bats in Madison today. We came out swinging yesterday, scoring nine runs, and less than 24 hours later you’re scrambling for base hits. But that’s baseball."—Head Coach Mickey Ennis
