MADISON, NJ - Madison's Open Space, Recreation & Historic Preservation Advisory Committee will mark National Trails Day with a free public event at Memorial Park on Saturday, June 6, at 9 a.m., featuring a ceremony and a short walk along recently improved trails and boardwalks suitable for all ages.
The event begins at the trailhead near the ice-skating rink, where parking is available. Trails are also accessible from Rosedale Avenue near the skating rink/soccer field or the baseball field.
The trail improvements were funded through the Morris County Planning and Preservation Trail Construction Grant Program and the Madison OSRHP Fund. The project builds on a previous phase of trail work at the park, Madison's largest at 68 acres, which includes a natural area with woodland trails alongside a soccer field, baseball fields, a dog park, a community pool and a skating rink.
"The continued support received through Morris County's Planning and Preservation Trail Construction Grant Program has been instrumental in advancing the overall trail project," said Borough Council Member and OSRHP liaison Melissa Honohan.
"This partnership, combined with Madison's continued investment through OSRHP funding and collaboration among Borough committees, allows us to keep expanding accessible recreational opportunities and healthy outdoor spaces for our community."
Mayor Robert H. Conley said the project reflects the value of intergovernmental partnership. "Building upon the success of the initial phase, the continued work will further enhance accessibility, connectivity, and the overall experience for residents enjoying Madison's open spaces," Conley said.
"Projects like this demonstrate the value of strong partnerships between the Borough, County, and community stakeholders as we continue investing in Madison's parks and trails for future generations."
Elected officials, OSRHP Advisory Committee members and invited county and community guests will attend the June 6 event. National Trails Day, held annually on the first Saturday of June, is a nationwide day of public events focused on trail advocacy and stewardship.
