MADISON, NJ — Madison is about to welcome a new group of college students to town as move-in week gets underway at Drew University.
Beyond getting settled on campus, new students are also being introduced to Madison itself. Drew calls the borough their "new hometown" and encourages students to explore downtown, which is within walking distance of the university.
When students are ready to venture beyond campus, downtown Madison offers plenty within walking distance, from coffee at Forum Coffee and breakfast at Sunday Motor Co. to a meal at the Nautilus Diner. Students can also browse local bookstores and shops or visit the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts as they get to know their new hometown.
New international first-year students are scheduled to move onto Drew's Madison campus Wednesday, two days before the broader new-student move-in Friday.
New first-year and transfer students move in Friday, with students assigned morning arrival times based on their housing assignments.
Once students have moved in, attention turns to Fall Orientation, which runs Friday through Sunday and is required for new first-year and transfer students. The university says the weekend includes academic and social activities aimed at helping students adjust to university life.
Families are also invited to Friday afternoon's Opening of School Ceremony, when Drew faculty and staff will formally welcome students to the university community.
Returning sophomores, juniors and seniors move in Sunday, bringing even more students back to campus.
Drew University said orientation is designed to help students settle into campus life, adding, "The experiences and memories you'll have during orientation will last a lifetime."
