Athletic Fields Closed Due To Excessive Heat Warning In Madison

MADISON, NJ — As the summer heat wave in New Jersey continues, Madison Borough officials have decided to close all athletic fields, including basketball courts and ball fields, for the middle of the day.

"All athletic fields will be closed between 12 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and any use during that time is unauthorized," officials said.

The decision was made in accordance with a previously established Borough of Madison Department of Recreation ordinance, which states that "if the relevant office of the National Weather Service issues a Heat Advisory, all athletic fields will be closed from noon until 5:00 p.m., automatically rendering any and all use during that timeframe unauthorized by the Borough."

Today's high temperature in Madison is expected to be near 94 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are not expected to drop over the weekend, with a high of 96 degrees on Saturday and 97 degrees on Sunday predicted.
