Now, Boardman is relishing his individual success, as the Madison captain followed up his second-place District 10 finish with a second place in the Region 3 Tournament at Union High this past weekend.

The silver medal at the Regions punched Boardman’s first-ever trip to the state wrestling championships in Atlantic City starting Friday.

Boardman was outstanding at the Region 3 tournament as he rattled off three straight wins, limiting his first three opponents to one point a piece and sending him to his first Region 3 finals appearance of his career.

In the finals, Boardman came up just short to top-seeded, 285-pound Zach Troutman of New Providence.

Boardman’s path to the finals included wins over Rahway’s Laziek Jones, Plainfield’s Taiquan Womack and Linden’s Austin Frank. The trio had a combined 80-17 record.
