Abbott Districts Win Again - How Much More Will This Cost Madison?
The Supreme Court awarded $500 Million to the poorest districts. Why doesn't everyone receive their fair share of the funding formula?

“All men are created equal”. So why did the NJ Supreme Court only grant the
Abbott districts $500 million in additional funding? ("After Court Rebukes Christie on School Funding, Districts Await Answers," Madison Patch, May 24). Don’t the students in Madison (and all suburbs for that matter), deserve their share of the funding formula as well? We are losing teachers and programs and paying higher fees and taxes while the poor districts have elaborate buildings and swimming pools, and now are entitled to receive even more.
I believe all children deserve an education and so it is perplexing to me that we are only concentrating on increasing funding for just the poor districts, when the funding formula should be applied across the board to all districts. Now I am not a lawyer, but my understanding was that the case was filed due to the unconstitutionality of Christie’s blatant disregard for the funding formula. I know the funding formula applies to students in all the districts. So, can someone please help me to understand why only the poorest districts received $500 million and the rest of us are going to be stuck footing the bill in taxes. Please correct me if I am wrong, but these are educated judges who ruled on this case. Am I the only one who considers it ironic?
Madison students and taxpayers lose again. But thankfully, at least there will be fields for our children to play on.
