And the Survey Says...
At the latest BOE meeting, the superintendent discussed upcoming surveys to determine the need for a Kindergarten wrap-around program as a form of revenue generation. What are your thoughts?
Although my children are older now, I fondly remember the preschool days and the start of elementary school. I also remember the talk about the possibility of full-day kindergarten being a key topic of discussion for many residents, especially during the referendum several years back. Yes, perhaps it is true that several parents in Madison are fortunate enough to stay home with their children, but as times change, many are finding it more difficult to do so.
At the latest BOE meeting, Dr. Rossi mentioned two upcoming surveys denoting the possible interest in a kindergarten wrap-around program as well as improvements to the school website. As a means of revenue funding, our new Superintendent has piloted a kindergarten wrap around program in his previous district that he proposes to introduce in Madison. It is certainly early on in the process and obviously much needs to be considered before implementation. It certainly appears that this would be of great interest to many parents and could be a solution to a current need in town.
So my question to parents of younger children, would you be willing to pay to keep your child in kindergarten all day? What would be considered a fair price to pay and what method for program admission should be used (i.e. Lottery, first come- first served, etc.) Another question for all parents is what do you think the generated revenues should be used for?

Finally another upcoming survey will ask for insightful tips on the website. I visit the MPS website regularly and can hardly wait to see what improvements they have in mind. Keep your eyes open for the Honeywell Alert notifying you about these two surveys. I look forward to seeing some positive changes!
