Burning Questions

Need some answers to some local issues.

As a working father it is near impossible to keep up with all the issues. It is a struggle to manage a few meals and oversee the homework, let alone stay tuned to the hotbed issues that permeate around town. Can a brother get some knowledge?

  1. What is going on with the Firehouse renovation?
  2. What is happening with the school property on Kings Road near Madison Bike Shop? The fields will be unavailable to Madison when? Who owns it? Is a hotel indeed being built there?
  3. The turf fields are in the process of going down. When will games be played there? What sports? Adult leagues too? Will the concession stand sell Guinness? Steak frites?
  4. Enterprise has done a nice job with its relocation. Does that prompt the inevitable move toward a Super Wawa at the old Exxon lot? Or does the owner of Huntley Tavern/Trap Rock put up a four-story bar/restaurant like all my friends want? Does the old Napa spot open a concert venue/wine bar? Do all my ideas have to be alcohol related?
  5. Will the Madison football team win back to back titles? If they do, will we become more like those Pennsylvania steel towns that revel in their high school teams a bit too much? Think Tom Cruise in "All the Right Moves."  Cheer the boys on but stop short of thinking you are part of the team.  Support, don't smother. More: "Go Dodgers!" Less: "To hell with Chatham and the ref!"

Finally, will this Thanksgiving get lost in the ever-growing commercialization of Christmas?

It had better not! Granted, I am biased since I was born on Thanksgiving, but I cannot be the only one who thinks it is America's finest Holiday.

A crisp fall air and the smell of fresh food from the kitchen; football on the television and the inevitable debates/tension at the family table; laughter and tears; and most important, time spent with those that mean the world to us. Here is hoping you all enjoy it immensely.
