Madison Clinic Coach Peter Mazzocchi had that all too familiar look of frustration preparing for week 4’s game against Wallkill Friday night at MRC. After a promising start to the season against a tough Denville team, which resulted in a narrow Madison victory, game two against Boonton was abruptly cancelled. Week threes’ game against Newton was halted at the half by an injury to Madison player Jack Wilt, which left everyone shaken but ultimately spared Wilt any serious setback.
Madisons first play on their first possession was fumbled, turning it over to Wallkill, and it looked like we could be in for a long night. However, the Dodgers quickly regained their composure on their second series culminating in an 80 yard sprint by Patrick Penders behind superb blocking for the first score of the night. Tough Madison defensive tackles by Timmy Holland, Patrick Quinn and Penders kept Wallkill scoreless, and a second quarter fumble recovery by Ryan Marquardt set up a 45 yard run by Holland to the end zone. A late score by Wallkill ended the half with Madison ahead 14-6.
Holland was not done, opening the second half with another impressive 45 yard run to the 15, where Penders took it in for a 20-6 lead. In the fourth quarter, qb Jack O’Hearen had a thrilling run following his blockers for a big first down, enabling Penders to strike again from 30 yards out to make it 26-6.

After a nice drive by Wallkill making the score 26-14, they again regained possession late in the fourth, but their final drive was derailed by a resounding tackle by Matthew Monaco, and Madison gets the win. Next week against Hanover.
