Paul Campbell shares ramblings on all things Tech. A bit of space to help inform, educate, and entertain you on technology things that clutter Paul's mind on a regular basis.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • "I found it on Google!"
  • "I have an App for that."
  • "Text me their number."
  • "Did you see my photos on Facebook?"
  • "I follow her on Twitter."

These are words used regularly around the entire world in 2011, and this is a language I speak all day long.

Welcome to my ramblings on all things Tech.  The Madison Patch has decided to give me a bit of online space to help inform, educate, and entertain you on the things that clutter my mind on a regular basis.  I love technology!  For me, living in this connected world is like waking up in a gigantic toy store.  Discovering new devices, figuring out how to use them and utilizing them in new and exciting ways is the big hit for me.  I spend way too much time with computers, smartphones and all related gizmos.

The weird thing is that I am a late blooming geek.  I was not brought up in front of an LCD or banging on a keyboard.  I am a baby boomer who became so fascinated with Information Technology that I became possessed with the curiosity to learn everything there is to know about it.  Some people are amazed that someone my age knows so much about the field.  That's because I jumped right in, lock, stock and barrel.

(I am still curious as to where that term originates, sounds suspiciously like a reference to a gun.  That is not really my usual point of reference.  Look it up on Google and let me know.  Post it in the comment section.)

Not so soon afterward, I began to see that following all the new trends was almost an impossible task.  So nowadays I do my best to keep up, stay current in the software and hardware world, and rely on a bunch of my friends to keep me updated on all the new stuff.  I will introduce you to few of them in my future posts as they help me (and hopefully you) understand a new App or something along those lines.

Speaking of which, I am writing this post on my iPad, using a free App called Evernote.  It's pretty cool and is really useful for students and business people who need a program to keep all their notes, photos and attachments in one place.  Here's the link: http://www.evernote.com.  This app was recommended by Judy, the Irish One.  We will be hearing more from her in later posts.

Typing on the iPad keyboard has really become easier over time, one needs to stay with it.  Having a good case or cover (with a tilt up option) really helps.  (Soon I'll be posting photos of items like Apple's iPad cover to demonstrate the things that whisk through my head).

Also, I must say that the spell check is much better on the iPad than on the iPhone, which embarrasses me regularly when I use it to text or post on Facebook.  The Facebook app for the iPhone is great, by the way, but it is useless on the iPad.  For the iPad I just log in with Safari, or sometimes use an app called MyPad.

Well, I have tons to tell you and I hope we are off to a good start.  Look for future posts and remember to comment below.  I sometimes have this fear that I am lost in a Tron-type world, so your comments are necessary for me to justify my effort, hunting and pecking on the iPad for all this time.

So ask stupid questions, or clever ones, post new insights, or brag about new gadgets.  Tell me about what doesn't work, and maybe your frustration with those things.  Send me your problems and I will do my best to respond with solutions.  Please keep the negative comments about me to less than three characters, as my ego is quite fragile, or huge.  Maybe both.

This is all about good energy.
Paul
