A few weeks back I wrote about folks treating my street as a drag racing strip. I was relieved and gratified to get a response from the force. Last Friday I met with a patrolman and we discussed possible options to remedy the situation.
During the past few weeks I have noticed a greater police presence and continue to be impressed with the efforts. I admit Madison's police force is undermanned and certainly under-appreciated. However, like many of the public employees we seem so eager to bash, I ask you all to take a harder look.
Moreover, as we enter the biggest holiday weekend of the summer, let's try to do our part. Take time to say hello when you pass someone on Main Street. Give a thank you to the policeman that helps you cross the street. Obey your local laws and when you are done polishing off that 12-pack of Bud, have the sober(er) one drive.

For one weekend can we forget about Chris Christie or Michelle Bachmann? Gas prices and teachers pay? Elevated terror risks and commuting issues??? Be free and enjoy everyone.
And since the police are clearly listening...maybe give a pass to some harmless fireworks?
