Without getting into the politics of Robert Conley v Mary-Anna Holden, Republican v Democrat, right versus wrong, perhaps we should be examining care v apathy?
How many registered voters are there in Madison? There has to be more than 4,000 folks, right? This mornings mayoral tally had Conley beating the incumbent 1937-1719, or 3656 total votes.
There is much debate in this "cyber world" over fields, zoning and taxation to name a few. When it time to raise your voice for real, do you do it?

Mr Conley will have some serious issues to deal with once he takes office. Policies aside, if you failed to cast a vote one way or another yesterday kindly shut your mouth for a few years. Unless of course you have something interesting or ridiculous to say, cause that could be cool.
A few weeks back Saturday Night Live did a nice parody of the folks behind the comments section on internet blogs. Take a look here (outsidethebeltway.com/snl-takes-on-blog-comments-sections/)for a few reasons: 1) It's good fun. 2) Melissa McCarthy was an inspired host that week and might be the best comedic woman working today- although Kristen Wiig might have something to say about it. 3) There is an air of truth to it.

The observation is keen though. There seems to be a hostile, vitroil to anonymous, unproductive discourse that litters our airwaves. It starts at the top. Talking heads Bill O Reilly and Bill Maher yell and crack crass jokes. It is far easier to make jokes and bully than to initiate real change.
This is today's mentality and we all have to accept it, even embrace it.
When we fail to go out and express all that rage and hositlity in a voting booth it renders it all obsolete.
With the presidential election a mere year away there should be a hard look on the process and how it can be approved. What can be done to get 75% turnout? Lollipops at the polls? Pollsters coming door to door on election day rather than the days leading up to it? Elimination of the Electoral College?
For now we tune in to the same old storylines and judge accordingly. Watch the news tonight for the Cain sexual harrassment story... or Perry drunk story... or Romney is wooden story ... All the same old nonsense that prevents us all from finding an adequate leader.
Where are the issues? Where are the jobs? Where is our attention focused?
On the couch waiting to write something nasty probably.
